The Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup, a biennial contest between the best golfers from the USA and Europe, was first contested in 1927 and will be played for the 38th time at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, Wales from 1-3 Oct, 2010.
The 2010 European Ryder Cup team will be captained by Colin Montgomerie.
The eight-times European number one replaces Nick Faldo, who was in charge for the 16½-11½ defeat by the United States in the 2008 event at Valhalla, Kentucky.
The Scot will be up against United States captain Corey Pavin, a former US Open champion who replaces Paul Azinger, the sucessful captain of the 2008 US Team at Valhalla.
